KIEN GIANG — Authorities in Rach Gia City in the southern province of Kien Giang have fined 20 manual seafood processing establishments since the beginning of September for violating environmental regulations.

The city estimates that at least 10,000 residents living in Vinh Hiep, An Binh, An Hoa, Vinh Quang wards are consistently forced to deal with extreme pollution caused by the centres.

Residents have called for more efforts to remove them from the city.

Manual seafood processing is an important trade in Kien Giang. The city is looking into establishing a designated area for their operation. — VNS
