Vietnamese films to screen in Cambodia

HA NOI — The 10 best Vietnamese films from the first online short films festival will be screened on September 17 at the Meta House cultural centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Cambodians will be able to watch award-winning films Thinking of You by Vu Quang Huy, The Journey Unknown by Do Dang Thuong and Up in the Tree by Bui Quoc Thang at the YxineFF festival.

Other Vietnamese films that may be screened include Garden by Doan Hoang Kien, Mother and Daughter by Phan Huyen My and Oh! Mommy by Jenni Trang Le which appears in the love and family category.

Festival-goers will also have the chance to see the work of emerging filmmakers including Hair That Grows Inside out by Truong Que Chi, Trapped by K5 group, Behind the Wooden Door by Ta Nguyen Hiep and Cut by Tran Ly Tri Tan.

Head of the YxineFF jury Marcus Vu Manh Cuong said the event allowed Vietnamese filmmakers to access the world.

TV show embraces family happiness

HA NOI — A new television programme about family issues has begun on Vnews, the Viet Nam News Agency's channel.

Named For Family's Happiness, the show was launched to prevent family violence and contribute to building equality and happiness in modern Vietnamese families.

Each programme includes news, information about family violence, short stories about family issues and answers general queries about family life.

Famous designer to showcase in Japan

HA NOI — Designer Vo Viet Chung will introduce three collections of the ao dai (traditional robes) dress to the Japanese public during the Viet Nam-Japan Culture Week which runs on September 15-19 in Tokyo.

The first collection focuses on silk and lace clothing with plaited or embroidered designs while the second features velvet and silk dresses with handmade wooden seeds. Japanese onlookers will be able to see first-hand a range of Vietnamese clothes made from the lanh my a material – traditional silk fabrics produced in the southern province of An Giang.

Vietnamese models and beauty queens will model the ao dai collections for the cultural week which is organised by the Vietnamese and Japanese ministries for Foreign Affairs. — VNS
